Confirmed flu cases are already at significantly higher levels than recorded at the same time last year which is urging GPs to focus on younger patients and at risk groups for influenza vaccinations. The H3N2 A strain has been responsible for high hospitalisation rates in the northern hemisphere, and Europe experienced late outbreaks of influenza B, experts say.
It has been reported that levels of flu during the first three months of 2015 have been at the highest recorded levels for this time of year, with cases expected to rise in June and peak in August, leaving just six weeks for high risk groups to be vaccinated.
It is a well known fact that the H3N2 influenza strain is particularly contagious, and that healthy people without chronic illness can pass the flu to higher risk groups, increasng the chance of complications for these groups.
Having a flu vaccination is not only important for your own health but it can stop the spread of the flu to others at risk.
